Reports

  • Sergeant at Arms Report: Kim reported on the number of those present at the meeting
    and thanked everyone for coming.
  • Secretary’s Report: The minutes from the November District 5 Meeting were reviewed
and were accepted and approved as printed in the newsletter.
  • Treasurer’s Report: Ang went over the District 5 financial accounts. She showed they
have been updated, reported on the numbers and made them available to the board
and those present. The report was approved as presented.
  • Product Line Report: The district is not looking to order any new product at this time.
We will use some of the current products as door prizes and silent auction items at the
District End of Year Party (EOY Party). The products will also be brought to the District 5
Booth at the Antique Bike Show in February. A tabled idea from the November meeting
was to donate the remaining product after the February bike show, to begin making
room for new district products. The idea was again tabled to a future meeting.
  • State/Legislative Report: There was really nothing to report on, legislatively, out of
Topeka. Nationally, out of Washington, there are still issues to keep an eye on, such as
    Right to Repair.

Old Business

  • The December State Meeting is at noon, Saturday December 13 th, at the Moose Lodge in Kansas City, Kansas. District 5 is hosting the meeting. The District 5 EOY Party takes place at 7pm the same day; set up for the party is at 6:30pm. The band Up From the Coop will be performing at the party.
  • Sunday February 1 st , from 9am to 2pm District 5 will have a booth setup at the Santa Fe Antique Motorcycle Show in Lawrence, KS. Bring your antique motorcycle and put it in. Stop by the ABATE of KS District 5 Booth while you are there and hang out.
  • Tony has “Look Twice – Save a Life” if anyone wants any.
  • Kim made a flyer for the District 5 Chili Cook-off. She made numbers for the contestants’ chili as well. The Chili Cook-off will take place during the February District 5 Meeting (see below for details).

New Business

  • It was brought up to have someone “chair” or lead/oversee organizing the games and other stuff District 5 participates in for the Back to the Roots Rally. Marty stepped up to chair the District 5 events and things for the Back to the Roots Rally.
  • May is motorcycle awareness month. District 5 always tries to put together an event to not only celebrate motorcycle awareness month but also promote motorcycle awareness and promote ABATE of Kansas. An idea brought up at this meeting was that there is also another event in May called Guns and Hoses, which is a benefit for police and firefighters. It brings in many people, and it could be beneficial for the district to have a promotional booth there as well, promoting motorcycle awareness. This would be in place of the district’s normal stand-alone May event. It was decided to have someone within the district contact the Guns and Hoses event coordinators and see if we can have a booth set up at the event.
  • Another item of discussion was State Office groundskeeping and building cleanup. What was talked about was if during down time at the Cabin Fever Rally, we go down and spend a few hours doing some spring clean up at the State Office. Everyone is just sitting around idle during the day, waiting for the things in the late afternoon/evening to start happening anyway. Why not go down and knock a few things out. With a bunch of people doing things, it wouldn’t take very long to get some yard work and repairs to the building done. Spend a few hours, which could potentially get logged as work hours.
  • District 5 donated a substantial number of coats to Moose Riders coat drive. District 5 also made a financial contribution to B.A.C.A. for last month’s fundraiser.
  • District 5 would like to thank the Christian Motorcycle Association (CMA) for their bible donation.

The District 5 Election Ballots for the open board positions were counted Dozzle announced the nominees elected.

  • Assistant District Representative: Bud Chapman.
  • Treasurer: Angela Thomasson.
