2024 June 21 – April, May & June 2024 Meeting Report for ABATE of KS District 5

June 1, 2024

The June District 5 Meeting was held at noon on Saturday, June 1st, 2024 at Big D’s on the Hill in Kansas City, KS. Tony called the meeting to order. All stood for the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by a moment of silence.

Reports.

  • Sergeant at Arms Report: Tank reported on those present at the meeting.
  • Membership Report: Tony reported on the District 5 Membership. As a reminder, talk about ABATE to other riders who may have not known about it. Also, remind those who’s membership may have expired.
  • State Report: There has not been a State Meeting since the last District 5 Meeting and
    report.

Old Business.

  • There was discussion about the different classes about the bike show and games District 5 puts on at the Labor Day Rally. Everyone present was okay with the classes from last year
    for the bike show. As far as the bike games, it was decided to remove the Blind Man Run (no
    one showed up for it). Instead, we will be bringing back a fan favorite, The Barrel Race. Also,
    we will bring back another fan favorite, The Mini-bike Barrel Race, which will take place right after the regular barrel race. Prior to all of the other games, there will be a mini-bike race at noon as well.
  • The tickets were approved for the Party in a Wagon. The wagon has also been purchased. The wagon will be given away, as usual, during the games at the Labor Day Rally.
  • There was discussion about ordering District 5 products to be sold at the Labor Day Rally. It was decided to possibly do a short order of the “Property of Dist. 5” “Tailgater” t-shirt, only change the color from blue to black. Kim made a motion for the district to make the short order run on the shirts. Angie seconded the motion. All in favor, no opposed, motion passed. The district will be going forward with the short run on the shirts.
  • There was a short discussion on sponsoring an electrical pole at the Labor Day Rally site. The discussion was again tabled for another meeting.

Meetings.

  • The July District 5 Meeting will be held at noon on SUNDAY, July 14th, at Big D’s on the Hill. The August meeting will be held at noon on Saturday, August 3rd, at the Labor Day Rally Site (Paradise Point, Perry Lake – old vendor pad) in Ozawkie, Kansas. (This is a work weekend – get your hours in for early entry)
  • The September meeting will be held around noon time on September 1st, while the judges are looking at bikes during the bike show on the game field. Labor Day Rally Site. (Paradise

A motion was made to adjourn by Kim. The motion was seconded by Angie. All in favor, no opposed. Meeting was adjourned. Look forward to seeing everyone next month.

May 11, 2024

The May District 5 Meeting was held at noon on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at Wyandotte County Lake Park. Tony called the meeting to order. All stood for the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by a moment of silence for lost brothers and sisters.

Reports.

  • Sergeant at Arms Report: Tank reported on the number of those present.
  • Secretary’s Report: Beth made a motion to wave the reading of the minutes from the April meeting. Danny seconded the motion. All were in favor and the motion passed. See your newsletter for the April meeting minutes.
  • Treasurer’s Report: The numbers were reported. All accounts are in good standing.
  • Membership Report: Tony reported on the District 5 membership numbers. Keep in mind to speak to you fellow riders about ABATE. Also follow up with those whose membership may have expired to bring them back in.
  • Product Line Report: The district has products available. The district was holding off on ordering new products, however considering ordering products for the Labor Day Rally. The ordering of products for the rally was tabled until the June meeting.
  • State Meeting Report: Tony reported on the items related to the State Meeting. See the state meeting report in the newsletter and on the state website.

New Business.

  • There was some discussion about what bike games were popular enough to keep running or maybe change up. Also think about keeping for the 50th anniversary plaques. The bike games issue was tabled for the next meeting. There are new electrical hookup poles that can be sponsored with a plaque. Discussion about the district sponsoring an electrical hookup was also tabled for another meeting.

Upcoming Meetings.

The June District 5 meeting will be held at noon on June 1st at Big D’s on the Hill in Kansas City, KS. The July meeting will be held at noon on July 14th, also at Big D’s on the Hill. The August Meeting will be held at noon on August 3rd at Paradise Point, during a work weekend at the Labor Day Rally site. The September meeting will take place at noon on September 1st on the game field of the Labor Day Rally at Paradise Point. Meeting Adjourned

April 6, 2024

The April District 5 Meeting took place at noon on Saturday, April 6th, 2024 at Full Draw in Edgerton, KS. The Meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence.

Reports.

  • Sergeant at Arms Report: Tank reported on all present at the meeting. Secretary’s Report: It was decided to wave the reading of the minutes from the March meeting.
  • The March minutes were accepted and approved as reported in the newsletter.
  • Treasurer’s Report: The numbers were read and approved based on the numbers reported from the treasurer’s statement.
  • Membership Report: District membership reported a review of the District 20 roster does not indicate any District 5 people were assigned to District 20. The office manager is doing a great job of keeping these things in proper order. Please remind all those coming to the rally to fill out the membership form application and indicate properly on the form if they fall into District 5.
  • Legislative Report: Kansas Right to Purchase bill: retaining the right to purchase gasoline powered vehicles was signed by the governor. Kansas is going to have to re-introduce a state Right To Repair bill, as it did not get past the committee. Bridging The Gap Conference is at noon on April 20th at the Ramada Inn in Topeka, KS, starting at noon. Speakers from several different organizations will discuss the future of motorcycling and our rights. The Kansas Confederation of Clubs will be supplying dinner following the conference.

New Business.

  • Work weekends are happening at the Labor Day Rally site. Get your 12 hours for Thursday admittance in before the hottest part of the summer. Watch the ABATE of Kansas website and Facebook page for dates and times (normally Friday evening through Sunday with camping available), mostly cleanup work and brush cutting happening now. District 3 Rally in Girard, KS, May 3rd and 4th. District 5 will be there putting on the bike games.

Meetings.

District 5 Meeting and May Motorcycle Awareness Event is May 11th. Gathering at Wyandotte County Lake, Shelter 10. Meeting starts at noon. Stay and hang out with the district. All are welcome. Bring your friends and let’s have a good time. Food will be available. Bring your own beverages. Products will be available as well. The District 5 banner discussed at the March Meeting has been purchased. Meeting adjourned.
