2024 FEB 26 – February 2024 Meeting Report for ABATE of KS District 5

February District 5 Meeting was held at noon on Saturday February 3 rd at Big D’s on the Hill in Kansas City, KS. Tony called the meeting to order. All stood for the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by a moment of silence for lost brothers and sisters, as well as those serving our country.

Reports.

  • Sergeant at Arms Report: Tank reported on the number of those present at the meeting.
  • Secretary’s Report: It was decided to wave the reading of the minutes from the January District 5 Meeting. The January minutes were accepted as James reported and were printed in the newsletter.
  • Treasurer’s Report: Tony reported on the numbers for the District 5 accounts. All accounts are in good standing as reported.
  • Membership Report: Tony went over the status of the District membership. Make sure to be talking to your friends and others about ABATE. If you know someone that used to be a member and may have forgotten to renew; go ahead and give them a reminder.
  • State Report: The January state meeting was to have been held in Norton, KS. The meeting was cancelled due to weather conditions. See the newsletter for any further information on the state meeting.
  • Legislative Report: Bikers Under the Dome had a pretty good turn-out. ABATE had a presence there, as well as other organizations. Tony was able to speak with representatives about items such as Motorcycle Profiling, what constitutes a motorcycle, and the right to repair.

Old Business.

The District 5 May Event for motorcycle awareness will be in conjunction with the May District 5. Monthly Meeting. It will take place at noon on Saturday, May 11th at Wyandotte County Lake. 83rd Street Shelter. A motion was made by Beth to serve hotdogs and chips. The motion was seconded by Beth. All were in favor and the motion passed.

New Business.

There was a motion made for District 5 continuing its MRF membership support. The motion was seconded. No one opposed and the motion passed.

The March District 5 Meeting will take place at noon, Saturday, March 2nd at Papa C’s BBQ. 807 S. Silver St., Paola, KS 66071.

The chili contest was won by Beth Sullivan. Thank you to everyone who participated! It was a great time. We are looking forward to seeing everyone at the next District 5 Meeting in Paola, KS.
