2024 DEC 20 – DEC 2024 Meeting Report for ABATE of KS District 5

The December District 5 Meeting was held at noon on Saturday, December 7th, 2024 at The Bar in Kansas City, KS. Tony called the meeting to order. All present stood for Pledge of Allegiance, followed by a moment of silence for lost brothers and sisters.

Reports.

  • Sergeant at Arms Report: Tony reported on the number of the members and non-members
    present at the meeting and thanked everyone for coming.
  • Secretary’s Report: James read over the minutes from the November District 5 Meeting. Becky made a motion to approve the minutes as read and printed in the newsletter with the amendment of the Antique Motorcycle Show in Lawrence be reported as the 15th annual instead of the 25th annual as was stated and printed. Kim seconded the motion. All approved and the motion passed. The Secretary’s Report was accepted with the amendment.
  • Treasurer’s Report: Angela went over the updated District 5 accounts and presented the numbers. She reported the accounts are in good standing.
  • Membership Report: Tony went over the numbers of District 5 membership. Remember to talk to people about ABATE. Also, people you haven’t seen around at ABATE functions in a while. They may have forgotten to renew.
  • State Report: Tony reported on the November State Meeting in Ozawkie, KS. See the State Meeting Report in the newsletter for more on the State Meeting.

Old Business.

  • There was more talk about the sound system issues. It was decided to get the sound system out at Debbie’s, in her yard, and spend some time trying to work the bugs out of it.
  • The District 5 Board Member votes were counted for the positions which were open for election. The results were as follows: District Representative: Tony Rawls-Riley, Secretary: James Thomasson, Sergeant at Arms: Kim Pond.
  • It had previously been discussed how the district will not be ordering any new product/merchandise until more of the current is sold. Bud made a motion to sell off current older District 5 product at a discount price, starting now, until it’s gone, in order to fund updated product. Becky seconded the motion. All were in favor, no one opposed. The motion passed. The district will be selling discounted product.
  • The February District 5 Meeting will also have the District 5 Chili Cook-Off. So, enter your chili. Vote for your favorite chili. Let’s have some fun with this again. The meeting will be at Big D’s.

New Business.

  • There was some discussion about the district putting together another coffee run. This is a
    ride consisting of going from coffee shop to coffee shop. The discussion was tabled to the
    next meeting.
  • Ideas were discussed to come up with motorcycle awareness event and meeting in May; possibly south of KCK. This will be discussed more in the next meeting.
  • Tony stated he still has yard signs which he will be bringing to the End of Year Party.

Meetings.

  • The January District 5 Meeting will be held at noon on January 4th, 2025 at American Legion Post 199, 7942 Leavenworth Rd., Kansas City, KS 66109.
  • The February District 5 Meeting will be at noon on February 1st, 2025 at Big D’s on the Hill, 2139 S. 34th St. Kansas City, KS 66106. CHILI COOK-OFF!!!
  • The March District 5 Meeting will be held at noon on March 1st, 2025 at Full Draw, 100 E.
    2nd St., Edgerton, KS 66021.

District 5 Meetings are open to the general public. Bring yourself, your friends, everyone you know. In February, bring your chili. We hope to see everyone soon.
