2025 FEB 18 – JAN & FEB 2025 Meeting Report for ABATE of KS District 5

FEB 1, 2025

The February District 5 Meeting was held at noon on Saturday, February 1st, 2025 at Big D’s in Kansas City, KS. Tony called the meeting to order. All stood for the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by a moment of silence for lost brothers and sisters.

Reports.

  • Secretary’s Report: James went over the minutes from the January district meeting and also reminded everyone of items which were tabled for the February meeting. The minutes were approved as read as well as printed in the newsletter.
  • Product Line Report: The district still has product available. See any board member if you are interested in any product, as well as yard signs. It was decided there will not currently be any more production of women’s XXL wear, as there is no interest in the product.

Old Business.

  • There was discussion the district has in the past has always made a donation to the Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF). A motion was made for District 5 to make a donation for the MRF. The motion was seconded and was passed. The district will continue with its annual donation to the MRF. Bud got up and spoke for a few moments about Motorcycle rights organizations (MRO), such as the MRF and ABATE. If you don’t think they are important; they are always watching what is happening with smart cars. Look at what is happening with those and other cars, bicyclists and pedestrians. Think about motorcyclists… The MROs are.
  • The District 5 May Meeting, in conjunction with the motorcycle awareness month event will be pushed to the second weekend in May. District 5 will have our meeting at noon on May 10th at Big Dawg’s on 32 Hwy. in KCK (formally The Bar), followed by a ride in bike show after the meeting.
  • There was more talk about the Back to the Roots rally and what games and such the district is going to be able to provide with the limited amount of space. So far, with the discussion, it looks like weenie bite, slow man shuffle, potato pick-up, tire toss, balloon toss. Probably not looking to include trikes at this point.

New Business.

  • The March meeting will be held at noon on Saturday, March 1st at Full Draw in Edgerton – 100 W. 2nd ST., Edgerton, KS 66021.
  • The April Meeting will be held at noon on Saturday, April 5th at Ten and Two in Bonner Springs – 611 W. 2nd ST., Bonner Springs, KS 66102.
  • The May District 5 Meeting will be held at noon on Saturday May 10th at Big Dawg’s in Kansas City, KS. This meeting will be in conjunction with our district motorcycle awareness month event bike show after the meeting. 6720 Kaw Dr., Kansas City, KS 66111.
  • District 5 February Chili Cookoff: After the meeting, we had our February Chili Cook-off. The winners of this year’s District 5 Chili: #1 – Tonya. #2 – Angie. Congratulations ladies!!!

JAN 4, 2025

The January District 5 Meeting was held at noon on Saturday, January 4 th , 2025 at the American Legion Post 199 on Leavenworth Rd, in Kansas City, KS. Tony called the meeting to order. Bud made a motion to skip the normal opening practices and get the meeting going due to the weather circumstances. The motion was seconded and everyone agreed without question. The motion was passed. The meeting was also kept mostly informal and short, due to winter storm.

Reports.

  • Secretary’s Report: James quickly went over the highlights and items to be carried over from the December District 5 Meeting.
  • State Report: Tony went over the items from the December State Meeting. The December State Meeting was hosted by District 5 in Kansas City, KS. See the State Meeting Report in the newsletter for items from the state meeting.

Old Business.

  • Tony stated he has items to hand out at ABATE Booth at the Antique Bike Show in
    Lawrence.
  • There was discussion again about what type of event District 5 is going to put together for motorcycle awareness month in May, and if it would be in conjunction with the May District 5 Monthly Meeting. After much discussion and confirming with the establishment, Becky made a motion for the May District 5 Meeting to take place at Big Dawgs (previously The Bar), followed by a ride in bike show. The event will be in support of motorcycle awareness month. District 5 will be promoting ABATE of Kansas memberships. There will be District 5 products available as well. Beth seconded the motion. All were in favor and the motion passed.
  • Bud brought up he wanted to discuss thoughts about bike games and bike show for the Back to the Roots Rally in June. It was decided to table the discussion to the February meeting.

Meetings.

  • The February District 5 Meeting will be at noon on February 1 st , 2025 at Big D’s on the Hill, 2139 S. 24 th St., Kansas City, KS 66106. This meeting will also involve the District 5 Chili Cook-off. Enter your chili into the cook-off if you want. Come and eat some of the chili that has been entered and hang out with us at the meeting.
  • The March District 5 Meeting will be held at noon on March 1 st , 2025 at Full Draw, 100 E. 2nd St, Edgerton, KS 66021.
  • The April District 5 Meeting will be held at noon on Saturday April 5 th , 2025 at The Double Nickel, 189 Rogers Rd., Olathe, KS 66062.
  • The May District 5 meeting will take place at Big Dawgs ( previously The Bar), 6720 Kaw Dr., Kansas City, KS 66111. The Meeting will be followed by a ride in bike show in support of motorcycle awareness month.
